Our Story – About

In 1978, Jon Carroll (co-owner) planted trees with the largest worker-owned co-op in the United States, Hoedads Reforestation Cooperative. During this time, he spent half the year in Northwest forests with his family. This included his 3-year-old son, Jen Carroll (co-owner). The pair spent time working and living among the trees. At first, they began by pitching a tent, but soon realized living this way was difficult once the harshness of winter weather set in.

Today, we’ve handcrafted 300 tiny homes to date.

Needing to get his family out of the mud and into a clean, warm environment, Jon therefore decided to construct a tiny house travel trailer, long before “Tiny” was in style. After some trial and error, the house gradually became a functional and beautiful home for use during planting seasons—warm, cozy, and out of the mud! Eventually, the Carroll family changed professions and moved into town, leaving behind their tiny lifestyle.
